Systems on a Chip (SoC)
With the continuous improvement of the IC manufacturing process, higher and
higher levels of integration become possible. Meanwhile, the marketplace
demands more and more functionality in small products, which requires this
level of integration. From the LCD perspective, a System on a Chip (SoC) must
combine the LCD controller with the application microprocessor, memory and
other I/O controllers. The LCD controller itself can come onto the chip as a
functionality within the microprocessor ( see Generic Control by CPU ) or as a
functionality implemented within an FPGA ( see Generic Control by FPGA ). It
is also possible that the LCD controller functionality could be brought in as a
core, like a Controller IC but we do not know of any controller ICs being offered in this
format.
