Kyocera's isolator flanges are employed in Large Helical Device (LHD) coil equipment such as that designed for research in nuclear fusion. A mass vacuum exhaust gas is necessary to confine plasma under ultra-high vacuum conditions in a large, donut-shaped vacuum chamber. Kyocera's ceramic isolator flanges, made up to 600mm in outer diameter, play an important role in this vacuum exhaust port. These components help provide a foundation for long-term research into nuclear fusion, which offers mankind the promise of a clean and inexhaustible energy resource.
