Vancouver, WA (August 16, 1999) – Kyocera, the world’s leading manufacturer of thin-film thermal printheads, has created a useful handheld tool for engineers who design thermal printers. The tool is available at no cost by phoning 1-800-826-0527, or it can be requested via e-mail at tf.info@kyocera.com. The conversion tool, which resembles a slide rule, enables engineers to quickly find paper speed, cycle time, or line density, in English or metric units. The tool also displays the maximum operating conditions for 200 and 300 dpi thermal printheads, as well as the most common inch-to-millimeter conversions. “Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for customers to use our products,” said Robert Joslyn, Application Engineer for Kyocera Industrial Ceramics Corp., whose thin-film printhead division is based in Vancouver, WA. “In our day-to-day contact with the engineers who design thermal printers, it became apparent to us that we could offer an extra measure of value by providing a tool that makes their job a little easier.” Kyocera Industrial Ceramics Corp. is part of the Kyocera Group, a high-tech conglomerate with headquarters in Kyoto, Japan. Since its founding in 1959 as a manufacturer of technical ceramics, Kyocera has developed a vertically integrated product line that includes high-performance materials, components, devices, equipment and services. The company’s consolidated net sales for the year ended March 31, 1999 totaled $6.1 billion. Kyocera employs approximately 37,000 people worldwide and has been named by IndustryWeek magazine as one of "The World's 100 Best-Managed Companies."
