KYOCERA MITA America Launches Developer Support Program for Building HyPAS-Enabled Applications

HyPAS Developer Support Program Designed to Maximize Kyocera Product Compatibility, Develop Robust Integrated HyPAS Solutions, and Build Dealer Revenue

ORLANDO, FLA. and FAIRFIELD, N.J. – April 7, 2009 - Kyocera Mita America, Inc., one of the world's leading document solutions companies, today launched a Developer Support Program and Partner Website for HyPAS (Hybrid Platform for Advanced Solutions), a software solutions platform that optimizes the performance of Kyocera’s award winning multifunctional products (MFPs) through custom, integrated software applications.

Utilizing two key technologies, Web Services and JavaTM, HyPAS transforms a Kyocera MFP into a resource that evolves as its end users business evolves – all resulting in enhanced information sharing and distribution, resource optimization and improved document workflows.

The Kyocera Developer Support Program provides a roadmap for creating robust integrated HyPAS-developed solutions that are compatible with industry-standard solutions and build dealer revenue through solution-driven hardware placements.

“The Kyocera Developer Support Program is a vehicle for partnering with third party technology companies to expand Kyocera’s MFP capabilities with new applications designed to help our dealers build new revenue streams and maximum profits,” said Akisa Matsuda, director, software solutions for Kyocera Mita America. “HyPAS-enabled Kyocera MFPs allow for the advanced application integration and extended device security that can be customized to an organization’s specific document imaging requirements. The Kyocera Developer Support Program helps dealers to differentiate from competitors by utilizing HyPAS Tool Kits to customize their solutions’ capabilities and solve customer’s unique problems.”

Kyocera is rolling out its Dealer Support Program with three complimenting programs:

Certified HyPAS Dealer – Exclusively for Kyocera Mita America dealers, Certified HyPAS Dealers engage in an annual program and work with Kyocera to develop HyPAS–enabled solutions for Kyocera MFPs. Certified HyPAS Dealers receive the HyPAS Integration Tool Kit, which include two new HyPAS applications for dealers in addition to PanelPlus an operation panel customization tool. DMS Link allows dealers to establish an embedded interface with an end-users document management system. Enabling document capture, searchable PDFs, encrypted PDFs, and drag and drop configuration, dealers can easily create a link to document management systems using XML and open database connectivity (ODBC). ‘My Forms’ allows dealers to create dynamic variable data solutions directly from the Kyocera MFP. Utilizing Kyocera’s unique technologies PRESCRIBE and HyPAS, ‘My Forms’ gives dealers a powerful advantage by offering auto-populated forms through lightweight directory access protocol (LDAP), database and data entered on the panel. In addition to the HyPAS Integration Tool Kits, Certified HyPAS dealers are able to receive extensive technical training and specialized support from Kyocera.

HyPAS Partner – Designed for third parties with software or hardware that connects to a Kyocera device, the HyPAS Partner program provides the resources required to establish compatibility with Kyocera products. Kyocera works with HyPAS Partners and provides product specifications including a management information base (MIB), postscript printer descriptions (PPD) and Key counter / Key card specifications, all of which enable HyPAS Partners to achieve compatibility with Kyocera MFPs.

HyPAS Developer – Designed for third party vendors, but open to Kyocera Mita America dealers and their end user customers, certified HyPAS Developers are third parties that can develop seamlessly integrated or custom applications designed specifically for Kyocera MFPs and printer products. With an annual subscription through Kyocera, HyPAS Developers have access to HyPAS software development kits (SDK), sample code and other documentation that enables them to write applications for connectors that reside on Kyocera’s MFPs on the HyPAS platform. HyPAS Developers can embed robust integrated solutions, cementing Kyocera hardware in solution-driven environments and building dealer revenue through solution-driven hardware placements.

HyPAS-embedded solutions will be displayed at the Kyocera Mita America National Dealer Meeting, being held at the J.W. Marriott Grande Lakes in Orlando, Fla., April 6-8. Newly-created HyPAS applications include:

2MyInbox – This new HyPAS application allows users to send scanned documents to an e-mail account with the push of a button or swipe of a card

SharePoint Connector – With advanced integration with Microsoft SharePoint, the new SharePoint Connector application allows end users to log onto a SharePoint account, scan documents into a SharePoint folder and search and print the document directly from the MFP device panel

PaperTrail – For the security conscious end user, PaperTrail is a new application offering authentication, authorization, secure printing and usage tracking. PaperTrail provides a complete access control solution, and the user interface is further enhanced by using an optional proximity card reader.

About HyPAS
Kyocera’s HyPAS offers both Java-based and Web Services-based Software Development Kits (SDKs), and delivers a broad range of options for enabling Kyocera MFPs to seamlessly integrate and operate in a specific business environment. Additionally, HyPAS provides an open and flexible platform, enabling advanced integration with systems already implemented within an enterprise.

Java, a programming language commonly used in mobile applications, such as cell phones, provides the capability to embed features and applications within the document imaging device itself. By embedding Java applications within Kyocera MFPs, existing feature sets can be extended with more advanced, feature-rich, server-less capabilities - thus delivering seamless integration and advanced control capability. By adopting industry standard protocols such as SOAP/XML, HyPAS Web Services offers programmers a developer-friendly environment. Web Service applications provide system integrators with flexibility and interoperability because they can be implemented on a wide range of platforms and using almost any programming language. By combining two technologies, HyPAS delivers expanded versatility and capability.
