KYOCERA's Limited Cutlery Series Wins 2014 Red Dot Product Design Award

Costa Mesa, Calif. – The Kyocera Limited Cutlery Series, which features handcrafted Pakka wood handles and proprietary advanced ceramic blades, has won a coveted Red Dot Product Design Award.

For 60 years, the internationally recognized Red Dot seal has been awarded to products for creativity, innovation and quality. This year, the winners were chosen by an independent jury of 40 design professionals and leading industry specialists. The Limited Cutlery Series prevailed over nearly 5,000 other entries from 1,900 companies in 53 countries.

The Limited Cutlery Series combines the heritage of Japanese craftsmanship and style with state-of-the-art ceramic technology, resulting in extraordinary performance and beauty.

A first for the Kyocera line, the traditional Pakka wood handles are handcrafted by expert artisans in Seki Japan, reflecting traditional Japanese culture.  Their unique, gently curved shape is contoured to the palm for a natural, ergonomic feeling that enhances cutting performance.  This shape is rarely found in today’s marketplace because it is so time-consuming to produce.

The elegant handcrafted black blades feature Kyocera’s proprietary Zirconia 206 ceramic, which offers superior edge retention versus both ceramic and metal competitors. They are stronger and denser than other ceramic blades. Kyocera’s razor-sharp blades hold their edge at least ten times longer than professional high carbon steel cutlery.

The Kyocera Limited Cutlery Series also won the 2013 Good Design Award, and “Best in Category – Cutlery & Cutting Tools” in the 2013 Housewares Design Awards.

Crafted entirely in Japan, the Kyocera Limited Cutlery Series includes a 5-Inch Utility Knife ($109.95), 5.5-Inch Santoku Knife ($119.95), 6-Inch Chef’s Knife ($129.95), 6-Inch Nakiri Knife ($139.95) and 7-Inch Chef’s Knife ($139.95). All are available for immediate shipment.
