Tough-All-Over Brigadier™™ by KYOCERA Launches at Verizon with Sapphire Display

New smartphone display is virtually scratchproof

SAN DIEGO - August 07, 2014 - Surprise rainstorms, sudden drops and even keys and coins in pockets and purses can wreak havoc on our smartphones. Never fear with the tough-all-over Brigadier, the latest ultra-durable Android smartphone phone from Kyocera.

Brigadier features a display made of sapphire and is designed to be tough enough for anyone from busy moms and outdoor adventurers to construction workers and first responders. The Brigadier by Kyocera is now available online and in Verizon stores for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement, or for $19.99 per month as part of Verizon EDGE.

Brigadier's Sapphire Shield™ is a virtually scratchproof 4.5-inch IPS HD capacitive touchscreen display made from high-quality sapphire, a mineral that is second in hardness only to diamonds. A recent survey by comScore revealed that 73 percent of consumers surveyed rated drop protection or scratch-proof/shatter-proof screens as their most desirable durability feature.*

The new global-ready Brigadier by Kyocera is built to a Military Standard 810G rating to stand up to shock, vibration, extreme temperature, blowing rain, low pressure, solar radiation, salt fog and humidity. Brigadier also is IP68 certified for dust-tight protection, as well as protection against water immersion for up to 30 minutes at a depth of up to 6 feet (1.8 meters).

Some work environments require gloves or to be in wet locations, and that's ok since the Brigadier has Glove and Wet Touchscreen Operation technology. That means users can make or take a call, take pictures and activate the built in flashlight while wearing gloves or when the screen is wet. A Dura Grid widget allows easy access to key apps such as GPS, Barometer, and essentially any app shortcut. Brigadier also ensures clear audio in even the noisiest environments with loud, dual front speakers.

The global-ready 4G LTE Brigadier supports Verizon's new, blazing-fast XLTE network. Additional features include the Android 4.4 (KitKat) operating system, a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processor with 1.4GHz quad-core CPU, a long-lasting 3100 mAh battery, 8-megapixel rear-facing and 2-megapixel front-facing cameras, and expandable memory that supports microSD™ memory cards up to 32GB.

Brigadier and its Sapphire Shield display have been put to the test by Kyocera's lead product tester Bear Grylls, adventure-survivalist, star of the new series "Running Wild with Bear Grylls," businessman and the father of three active boys.
