KYOCERA Submits Digital Multifunctional Product Data Security Kit for ISO 15408 Certification

Fairfield, New Jersey – June 29, 2005 - Kyocera Mita America, one of the world's leading document imaging companies, today announced that Kyocera Mita Corporation has submitted its Data Security Kit (B) to an independent testing facility in Japan and expects to meet Evaluation Assurance Level 3 (EAL3) security standards and therefore be in compliance with the International Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation (ISO 15408) or “Common Criteria” in August 2005. The first products to offer this ISO 15408 certified Data Security Kit will be the recently announced KM-6030 and KM-8030 monochrome multifunctional products.
Kyocera’s Data Security Kit (B) is an advanced security solution designed to help companies protect the privacy of information across select Kyocera multifunctional products. Kyocera’s Data Security Kit acts as a powerful “memory scrubber” that automatically overwrites information remaining on an MFP’s hard drive after each copy, print and scan job is completed. This works to prevent unauthorized user access to confidential information retained in the MFP’s hard disk drive, thus reducing the threat of a security breach at the device.

ISO 15408 Certification, also known as Common Criteria for IT Security Evaluations, was developed by the national security organizations of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and The Netherlands. It provides a broad range of evaluation criteria for many types of commercial and nationally sensitive government-use IT security products. ISO 15408 evaluations involve formal rigorous analysis and testing to examine security aspects of a product or system.
