KYOCERA MITA's FS-C5016N ECOSYS Color Printer Provides Lowest Total Cost of Ownership in the Industry

KYOCERA MITA's FS-C5016N offers smallest footprint, superior networking, high-quality output, and best-in-class drum yield

Fairfield, New Jersey, July 21, 2003 -- Kyocera Mita, one of the world's leading document imaging companies, continues to demonstrate its commitment to the rapidly growing color market with the introduction of the 17 page per minute (ppm) FS-C5016N color and monochrome ECOSYS printer. Challenging the traditional high cost of color, Kyocera Mita now leads the industry by delivering an ultra-low 4.5 cents per color print. Competing brands offer a cost per color print of six to ten cents or higher.

The FS-C5016N printer is cost-effective and environmentally friendly. For example, an enterprise that purchases 25 of the FS-C5016N and runs an average of 5,000 color prints per machine per month has the potential of saving hundreds of thousands of dollars over three years versus the most competitive products currently in the marketplace.

"Kyocera Mita has reached a new milestone by breaking the five cents per page color cost barrier," said Michael Pietrunti, vice president, marketing for Kyocera Mita America. "By delivering a color cost per page of less than a nickel, Kyocera Mita is providing businesses of all sizes the opportunity to broadly deploy color output devices throughout their organization, at a very reasonable price."

"After evaluating all the current color printers in this segment, Kyocera Mita clearly has the lowest cost per page for color in the industry," said Chris Barnes, director of research for commercial printing, channels and digital media services at ARS, Inc., a competitive market intelligence analysis company. "Kyocera Mita's ECOSYS technology has made it possible for users to enjoy color output at substantially lower incremental costs, typically associated with color. ARS anticipates that the FS-C5016N will challenge other vendors and incite new demand in the color market by offering a cost per print page of under five cents."

ARS calculated a color cost per print for the FS-C5016N of $0.045 at 80,000 pages and $0.048 at 200,000 pages using estimated street prices and moderate market conditions. ARS calculated a total cost of owning the FS-C5016N at $3,590 for 80,000 pages and $9,575 for 200,000 pages. When determining per print cost using MSRP pricing, Kyocera Mita's device still comes out to 4.98 cents per printed page.

The FS-C5016N combines outstanding multi bit 600 dpi color images with superior networking using the standard IB-21e 10/100BaseTX network interface. It also includes a standard 500-sheet paper drawer (optionally up to three), 100-sheet multi-purpose tray, standard 96MB RAM (608MB Max), an optional 20GB hard disk drive, and a fast PowerPC750CXe-400MHz CPU -- which processes documents quickly for maximum productivity and minimum wait time. Additionally, the FS-C5016N has optional equipment, including automatic duplexing, an envelope feeder, the IB-20 10/100BaseTX, 10Base2 network interface and the IB-22 embedded wireless interface.

The network ready FS-C5016N print system supports all popular operating systems and print description languages, including KPDL3 (Postscript 3 Emulation), PCL6 (PCL 5c/PCL XL) and PRESCRIBE. PDF direct print is also supported. Users can print directly from their desktop with fast 600 dpi output quality on up to 110lb Index. By integrating the IB-22 embedded wireless interface, users can place the FS-C5016N where they need it and enhance their floor space design, all without the cost of running additional network cabling in the office.

The FS-C5016N is backed with an industry-leading 1-year warranty on parts and labor from the date of install, and the maintenance kit is warranted for a period of 3 years or 200,000 prints, whichever comes first. The unit measures 13.6" (W) x 18.5" (D) x 15.2" (H) and weighs approximately 46.3 lbs. The FS-C5016N is Energy Starâ compliant.
