GE and Burners Without Borders Named 2006 3G A-List Award Finalists
3G CDMA-Based Wireless Data Solutions Integrate KYOCERA 200 Module and KR1 Mobile Router with Passport KPC650 PC Card for Solutions Among the Best-In-Class
SAN DIEGO, CA -- (September 11, 2006) -- Kyocera Wireless Corp., a leading global manufacturer of CDMA wireless handsets and devices, today announced that two solutions integrating Kyocera Wireless data solutions have been named finalists in the 2006 3G A-List™ Awards. General Electric (GE) Consumer & Industrial, the service division for GE consumer products, is a finalist in the Embedded Deployment category for its ServicePOWER Complete Mobility fleet management solution, which integrates the Kyocera 200 Module for real time CDMA data communications. Burners Without Borders, a volunteer organization that provided disaster relief to the stricken Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina, also was selected as a finalist in the Non-profit category for its deployment of the Kyocera KR1 Mobile Router and Kyocera Passport KPC650 1xEV-DO PC card to create a high-speed, mobile Wi-Fi hot spot and provide Internet access and communications in the stricken area.
The QUALCOMM-sponsored awards program, now in its fourth year, recognizes innovative and successful enterprise wireless data solutions based on third-generation (3G) CDMA standards. QUALCOMM will unveil the winning solutions in each category during a private reception on Tuesday, Sept. 12 during the CTIA Wireless I.T.® & Entertainment 2006 conference in Los Angeles.
"Kyocera Wireless commends GE and Burners Without Borders for leveraging the power of 3G CDMA technology for two very different technology solutions that meet the challenge of simplifying operations and increasing productivity and efficiency," said Tom Maguire, vice president of global marketing at Kyocera Wireless Corp. "These innovative solutions demonstrate the breadth of possibilities enabled by evolving CDMA wireless technology and Kyocera Wireless data solutions."
GE's "Complete Mobility" fleet management solution, integrated by ServicePOWER, allows GE command central to instantly locate vehicles, assess equipment supplies and needs, update technician appointment schedules and vehicle routes, and provide directions and maps while the service team is at work in the field. Along with ServicePOWER, technology providers contributing to the solution include Kyocera Wireless M2M Group, CalAmp, Panasonic, GE Security and Verizon Wireless.
Burners Without Borders, a non-profit organization composed of volunteers from the famous Burning Man festival, spent six months conducting disaster recovery efforts on the hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast. In an area where communication infrastructure was decimated, the group used the Kyocera KR1 Mobile Router with a Kyocera Passport KPC650 PC card to create a mobile Wi-Fi hot spot from a single 1xEV-DO signal. Running off a solar cell, the KR1 Mobile Router made it possible for the team of relief workers and volunteers to organize work efforts, order supplies, receive donations, fundraise, communicate with family and friends and keep their day jobs while working remotely in the stricken area.
"QUALCOMM is proud to recognize both GE and Burners Without Borders as a 3G A-List Award finalist for their outstanding achievements using a best-in-class mobility implementation based on 3G CDMA technology," said Kristin Taylor, senior director of enterprise business development for QUALCOMM. "Each of the finalists has demonstrated the benefits of using 3G mobile technology to its full potential through real results such as increased business revenue and faster, more efficient operating processes."
The annual 3G A-List Awards honor outstanding wireless implementations that demonstrate creativity and innovation, overall business impact and how the winning company or organization exceeded business objectives by introducing higher return on investment, lower operating expenses or increased user satisfaction. Last year, QUALCOMM recognized nine companies as award winners for their successful deployment of 3G CDMA-based mobile enterprise solutions.
