KYOCERA MITA America Advances its Commitment to Protect Confidential Business Documents and Information with Comprehensive Security Solutions
Kyocera Provides Peace of Mind with Comprehensive Print, Copy and Scan Data Security
FAIRFIELD, N.J. – July 27, 2010 – Kyocera Mita America, Inc., one of the world’s leading document solutions companies, is protecting sensitive and confidential corporate and government data that is printed, scanned, copied or stored with comprehensive security solutions for network printers and multifunctional products (MFPs).
Kyocera’s security solutions prevent unauthorized access to confidential information retained in the network printer or MFP’s internal memory, as well as by limiting access at the device. And with the growing requirements for security in devices for government, health care and financial industries, Kyocera is at the forefront of developing solutions that eliminate the threat of a security breach. Kyocera security solutions include data overwrite technology, manual and automatic deletion, password protection, Common Criteria Certification (ISO15408) with EAL3 Level Conformance and Validation.
Kyocera marked five years of security excellence and industry-leading certified and validated security solutions with the hiring of Peter Cybuck as senior director of security and software solutions. Bringing more than 25 years security experience to Kyocera, Cybuck manages the planning and marketing of security and advanced MFP software solutions for the Company. He is currently involved in additional Common Criteria evaluations and Protection Profile development projects, as well as in the planning, development and introduction of new security solutions for document imaging devices.
“Businesses are constantly under attack from resourceful and innovative hackers and cyber thieves who target network printers and MFPs with legacy, nonexistent or moderate security features, as well as lost sensitive information due to unintended document interception,” said Peter Hendrick, vice president at Kyocera Mita America. “To combat this, Peter Cybuck and our dedicated security team have developed and continue to develop trusted and reliable security solutions to meet the expanding security requirements of our customers and to keep Kyocera products at the forefront of document security.”
Kyocera security features include:
Data Security Kits – Optional security kits automatically delete data stored on a device's hard drive.
- Memory used to temporarily buffer document data is cleared immediately after jobs complete using multiple overwrites of the area used to store the data.
- Kyocera’s Data Security Kits also employ encryption in select models to protect data prior to the execution of overwrites.
- Common Criteria certifies the method Kyocera uses to provide disk overwrite, providing a high level of confidence for data integrity.
Secure Printing – Kyocera’s Private Print allows users to securely print documents on any network printer or MFP from their PC and release the print job at the device by entering a personal identification code (PIN). This eliminates the threat of unauthorized personnel seeing confidential print jobs in open trays.
PrintQ Manager Secure Job Release – PrintQ Manager (PQM) secure job release allows authorized users to release print jobs that are held in the PQM server from any supported Kyocera device. With the addition of Kyocera’s HyPAS (Hybrid Platform for Advanced Solutions) integration, print controls and security features are further enhanced to include:
- Print authentication and authorization management using Active Directory
- Reporting capability includes tracking print use by job, user and device
- HID card authentication support.
API Cryptek’s Netgard™ MFD Smart Control – Kyocera offers complete device locking security capabilities through API Cryptek’s Netgard™ MFD card reader appliance for select Kyocera MFPs. End users are authenticated via U.S. Department of Defense-issued CAC/PIV Card (Common Access Card/Personal Identity Verification) and PIN via API Cryptek’s Netgard MFD. With this advanced security in place, Kyocera MFPs are securely locked from performing tasks until the user has been successfully identified.
API Cryptek’s Netgard™ MFD card reader appliance supports Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12). HSPD-12 is a government-wide mandate for Federal agencies to implement enhanced security measures to protect network enabled devices from a variety of threats. To support the needs outlined in HSPD-12, API Cryptek has enhanced their Netgard MFD application with additional security features available on select networked Kyocera MFPs for Government agencies operating in the United States and around the world. This option offers encrypted, digitally signed E-mail directly from the MFP.
AccessLock – Allows organizations, through Active Directory Authentication, to offer the use of device functions based on parameters set by the network administrators. By allowing individuals to use tasks necessary for their job function while curtailing access to other device functions, AccessLock enables companies to promote responsible device usage while addressing a broad range of user needs.
