SAIFE, Inc. and Kyocera Communications, Inc. Sign Joint Marketing and Development Agreement to Deliver Secure Mobility Aimed at Law Enforcement, First Responders and Defense

Chandler, AZ and San Diego - December 03, 2013 - SAIFE, Inc., a leader in secure communications, today announced a co-marketing and business development alliance with Kyocera Communications, Inc., a leading provider of wireless phones and a wholly owned subsidiary of Kyocera International, Inc.

Under the terms of the agreement, SAIFE and Kyocera have certified operation of SAIFE's Secure Framework for the Enterprise® on the Kyocera Torque, a ruggedized "commercial off-the-shelf" (COTS) 4G LTE Android™ smartphone, bringing best-in-class mobile technology and defense-grade security to deliver enterprise agility. The integration will deliver new and significant competitive advantage in secure communications for first responders, law enforcement, government, industrial and mobile enterprise customers operating in extreme environmental conditions.

"Our Torque and Dura Series mobile devices have made Kyocera a leader in ruggedized, dependable devices for the enterprise market, where they must excel in the most severe environments," said Eric Anderson, senior vice president and general manager of global sales and marketing at Kyocera Communications, Inc. "By offering Torque with the integrated SAIFE Framework, we meet a distinct need in the market for an innovative, durable and highly secure COTS mobile platform."

"This alliance addresses the crushing demand enterprises are experiencing around the benefits and challenges inherent in the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) movement," said Darren Cummings, CEO and founder of SAIFE. "The SAIFE Framework was recently selected by the U.S. Navy as the first software-only secure mobility solution for off-the-shelf devices approved for testing on a Navy network. The market development alliance between Kyocera and SAIFE will accelerate our mission to protect and connect the world's data seamlessly."

Kyocera Torque with the SAIFE Framework has obtained SAIFE Certified Labs Stage 3 certification. Users will benefit from capability sets such as:

  • SAIFE Mobile®: Secure end-to-end communication via FIPS 140-2 validated cryptography for secure voice, messaging, and application data-at-rest encryption over untrusted networks.
  • SAIFE Trusted IP Relay Network (TIPRNET®): A secure cloud-based network that provides high-availability and low-latency cryptographic services for SAIFE Mobile clients, offering built-in mitigation against Denial of Service (DoS) attacks.
  • SAIFE Management Console (SMC®): A secure Web-based solution that provides administrative capabilities for managing all of an organization's SAIFE-enabled devices. SMC provides an easy to use interface for administering the complex features of a fully implemented PKI, including certificate signing, revocation, configuration management, auditing, licensing, and password resets.

The Kyocera Torque smartphone is built to Military Standard 810G (MilSpec) to withstand dust, shock, vibration, solar radiation, humidity, blowing rain, low pressure, salt fog and extreme temperatures, along with IP67 standards for dust, sprayed water and full immersion in water up to one meter deep for up to 30 minutes. It was America's first phone to include Kyocera's award-winning new Smart Sonic Receiver technology, which transmits sounds not only as traditional sound waves, but also as vibrations carried by body tissue directly to the eardrum and inner ear, yielding unparalleled sound clarity even in the noisiest environments.
